This course prepares students to obtain certification in nitrous oxide monitoring as mandated by the State Board of Dental Examiners. A comprehensive review of the general guidelines and industry standards will be presented. Upon course completion, participants will be administered the required examination. (8 hrs.)
The Nitrous Oxide Monitoring certificate is an optional certificate for registered dental hygienists and registered dental assistants to be able to monitor patients receiving nitrous oxide/oxygen inhalation conscious sedation under the direct supervision of a Texas licensed dentist. An applicant must have completed a minimum of 8 hours of didactic education and testing in monitoring the administration of nitrous oxide taken through a CODA-accredited dental, dental hygiene or dental assisting program, approved by the TSBDE. The course taken to satisfy the requirements is valid for five (5) years from the date of course completion for certification purposes.
