Oil Painting
Tyler Junior College Classes
Program Description
This fall Marsha Blount will be offering a 6-week oil painting class designed for alllevel painters from those just starting out to experienced painters who are looking to refine their technique. The classes will include demonstrations on painting skies, clouds, trees, water, natural and manufactured structures; learning properties of areal and linear perspectives and working with warm and cool colors. We will use still lifes, florals, and other objects as subjects to paint. If you have a photograph of a place, you've been or something you want to work on, you are welcome to bring it in.
Just returning from Ireland, she will share photographs of the terrain there and talk briefly about using a travel journal. The class will cover which paint brushes to use, how to make and apply washes and refine layers of paint to mix with natural (Gamsol, a 100% pure odorless mineral spirit designed as a safer, less toxic, and low-odor alternative to turpentine for oil painters). If you prefer to use water-mixable oil paints, these will be available and demonstrated by Marsha. Historical movements in oil painting, and a few important artists will be added to the instruction. By the end of the classes, you will leave with several finished oils ready to display. All materials are included.
*To register for the course, participants must be 16 years of age or older.
